The largest fort in India by area and the site of three separate jauhars. You drive up through seven gates and then around the plateau itself. Vijay Stambh and Rani Padmini's palace are the set pieces, but the Kalika Mata temple end of the plateau is where the crowds thin out.

Before you go

The fort is vast and drivable inside. Do not attempt it on foot in one visit — you will see a quarter of it.
