Things worth knowing before you go
The order is not negotiable
Kumbhalgarh opens in the morning. Ranakpur generally admits non-Jain visitors only from around midday. Do Ranakpur first and you will sit outside a closed temple, then reach Kumbhalgarh with no time to walk the wall. Almost every itinerary online gets this backwards.
Fuel at Gogunda, not after
Fill up before you start the climb. The stretch between Gogunda and Kumbhalgarh has limited options and you do not want to be hunting for a pump on a ghat road.
Leather stays in the car
Belts, wallets and bags in leather are not permitted inside the Ranakpur temple. Sort it in the car park rather than at the entrance.
The road surface changes twice
Good tarmac to Gogunda, then a rougher patched section on the climb, then good again past Kelwara. Nothing a hatchback cannot do, but an SUV is genuinely more comfortable on the middle third.

Leave by 07:00. This is not padding — leaving at 09:00 is what turns this into a rushed, disappointing day.

Park at the lower gate and walk up. Give yourself two and a half hours — the wall is the point, and most people leave before they have walked any of it.
Open from the morning. Go here first if you are pairing it with Ranakpur — the reverse order wastes half your day.

Ranakpur Jain Temple

Eat before you go in — there is a decent thali place on the approach road. Non-Jain entry opens around midday, which is exactly why Kumbhalgarh came first.
Non-Jain visitors are generally admitted only from around midday. This is the constraint that dictates the whole day's order.

Udaipur

Back via Sadri and Gogunda. You will be driving the last half hour in fading light in winter.
The honest bit
This is a long day and the last leg home is tiring. If you have three days in Udaipur rather than two, split it — Kumbhalgarh with a night at Kelwara, Ranakpur the next morning. You will enjoy both more.
