Things worth knowing before you go
Dilwara closes to tourists at midday
The Dilwara temples admit non-Jain visitors only in the afternoon, typically from around noon. Photography is not permitted inside. Plan the morning around Nakki Lake and go to Dilwara after lunch.
There is a checkpost at the base of the climb
Mount Abu levies an entry toll on the way up. Keep cash and the car papers accessible — your MyDrives booking pack has the RC and permit copies in it.
Do not do this as a day trip
Seven and a half hours of driving to spend four hours on a hill is a bad trade, and the descent after dark is genuinely unpleasant. Stay the night.
It gets cold
December and January nights drop near freezing at the top. This surprises people who packed for Rajasthan.

The last 28 km is the reason you came. Twenty-odd hairpins, good surface, forest the whole way up.
The honest bit
Mount Abu town itself is a busy Gujarati holiday resort, not a quiet hill retreat — expect crowds, traffic on the lake road and a lot of ice cream. The temples and the drive are what justify the trip.
